How Much Does a Kenya Safari Cost? Prices per Person, per Day and per Trip

By the Africa Safaris team, Nairobi · · 3 min read

What a Kenya safari really costs: budget, mid-range and luxury prices per person per day, park fees, what's included, real package examples and ways to save.

"How much does a Kenya safari cost?" is the first question almost everyone asks, and the honest answer is: it depends on where you sleep, how you travel between parks and how many days you stay. This guide breaks down Kenya safari cost per person and per day, with real examples, so you can set a realistic budget.

Kenya safari cost per person per day

StyleTypical cost per person per dayWhat you get
BudgetUSD 200–300Small-group or basic private safari, simple tented camps or budget lodges
Mid-rangeUSD 350–550Private Land Cruiser and guide, comfortable lodges and tented camps, full board
LuxuryUSD 900–2,000+Top camps, private conservancies, fly-in transfers, often drinks and activities included

These figures are per person sharing a room. Solo travellers usually pay a single supplement.

What's included in a Kenya safari package?

On our safaris, the price normally includes:

  • a private 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and a professional driver-guide
  • all park and conservancy entry fees
  • accommodation as described, usually full board on safari
  • airport arrival and departure transfers
  • drinking water in the vehicle and emergency evacuation cover.

Not included: international flights, visas or the Kenya eTA, travel insurance, tips, most alcoholic drinks and optional activities such as a hot-air balloon flight.

Park fees: the hidden big-ticket item

Park fees are a major part of any safari price, so always check they're included. The Masai Mara National Reserve charges non-resident adults around USD 200 per day in peak season (roughly July to December) and less in the low season. Private conservancies charge their own fees, usually built into the camp rate. Other parks such as Amboseli, Lake Nakuru and Tsavo charge per person per 24 hours. Fees change from time to time, and we always quote them inside our package prices.

Real Kenya safari prices

Here are live "from" prices per person sharing for some of our most popular Kenya safaris:

Prices change with the lodges you pick. Every safari page lets you swap lodges and instantly see the new price.

Optional extras worth budgeting for

  • Hot-air balloon safari over the Masai Mara: around $495 per adult, including a champagne breakfast
  • Maasai village visit: around $40 per person
  • Private bush dinner: around $180 per person
  • Professional safari photographer: around $380 per day

Example budget for two people

A couple booking the 6-Day Kenya Family Safari at about $1,850 each spends roughly $3,700 on the safari. With our payment plan, that's:

  1. 30% deposit, $1,110, to confirm the booking
  2. 40%, $1,480, due 60 days before travel
  3. Final 30%, $1,110, due 30 days before arrival.

Each instalment is invoiced by email with reminders. Then add flights, insurance, the eTA and tips (we suggest around $15–25 per person per day for your guide).

How to save money on a Kenya safari

  • Travel in the green season (April–May, November), when many lodges discount their rates.
  • Choose a mid-range lodge in the parks and save luxury for one special stop.
  • Fewer parks, more nights. Driving between parks takes time, and time is money on safari.
  • Book early for July–October, when the best-value camps sell out first.
