  1. Day1

    Kigali to Volcanoes

    Kigali → Volcanoes National Park · approx. 100 km, 2.5 hrs

    Morning

    Meet your guide at Kigali International Airport or your hotel. Guided city tour of Kigali, one of Africa's cleanest and safest capitals, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a moving introduction to Rwanda's history and recovery.

    Afternoon

    Lunch in Kigali, then drive north-west through the 'land of a thousand hills', with terraced farms and views of the Virunga volcanoes as you approach Musanze.

    Evening

    Check into your lodge at the foot of the volcanoes. Your guide briefs you on what to bring for tomorrow's trek.

  2. Day2

    Gorilla trekking

    Gorilla trekking · 2–6 hrs trekking, at altitude (2,500–3,000 m)

    Morning

    Early breakfast, then a short drive to park headquarters at Kinigi for 7:00am. Watch a traditional dance performance while the rangers assign groups of up to 8 people to a gorilla family, matched as far as possible to your fitness.

    Afternoon

    Trek through farmland and into bamboo and montane forest with your ranger and trackers. When you reach the family, you spend a magical hour with them, watching the silverback, mothers and playful youngsters at close range. Porters (about USD 20, optional) can carry your bag and help on steep sections.

    Evening

    Return to the lodge for a hot shower and a well-earned dinner. Receive your gorilla trekking certificate.

  3. Day3

    Golden monkeys or Dian Fossey hike

    Golden monkeys or Dian Fossey hike (optional)

    Morning

    Optional golden monkey tracking in the bamboo forest. These rare, playful monkeys are found only in the Virunga mountains. Alternatively, hike to Dian Fossey's grave and the Karisoke research station, where she studied gorillas for 18 years.

    Afternoon

    Visit the Iby'Iwacu cultural village, or relax at your lodge with views over the volcanoes.

    Evening

    Dinner at the lodge.

    Return to Kigali

    Volcanoes → Kigali · approx. 100 km, 2.5 hrs

    Morning

    Breakfast and a relaxed morning.

    Afternoon

    Drive back to Kigali for lunch. Optional stops at the Inema Arts Centre or a craft market, then transfer to the airport for your onward flight.

    Evening

    End of services.
