Kenya Honeymoon Safari and Beach: The Perfect Bush-and-Beach Itinerary
By the Africa Safaris team, Nairobi · · 3 min read
Plan a romantic Kenya honeymoon safari: Masai Mara fly-in camps, private bush dinners, balloon flights and Diani or Zanzibar beaches, with itineraries and prices.
Lions at sunrise, champagne at sunset and the Indian Ocean to finish: a Kenya honeymoon safari is hard to beat. Here's how to plan the perfect bush-and-beach honeymoon.
The classic honeymoon formula
Most couples spend 3–4 nights on safari, followed by 3–5 nights on the beach. Our 7-Day Honeymoon: Masai Mara & Diani Beach, from about $2,470 per person sharing, flies you from Nairobi to a classic tented camp in the Mara and then on to a boutique resort on Diani Beach.
Romantic experiences to add
- Hot-air balloon at dawn over the Mara, with a champagne breakfast
- Private candle-lit bush dinner under the stars (around $180 per person)
- Honeymoon sundowner and cake with a surprise setup (around $120 per person)
- Couples' spa treatment at your lodge (around $140 per person)
- Dhow trip and snorkelling to Wasini Island from Diani.
Tell us it's your honeymoon when you book. Many lodges add a small extra touch when available.
Diani or Zanzibar?
- Diani Beach, Kenya: a long white-sand beach a short flight from the Mara, with no extra border crossing. It's ideal for a 7–10 day honeymoon.
- Zanzibar, Tanzania: spice-island culture, Stone Town and beautiful east-coast beaches. It pairs naturally with a Serengeti safari. See our 10-Day Tanzania Safari & Zanzibar.
When to go
The safari is great all year, but beach weather is best from June to October and December to March. The long rains in April and May bring the best prices but more cloud on the coast. See our month-by-month guide.
Honeymoon budget
A mid-range to luxury bush-and-beach honeymoon typically costs USD 2,500–6,000 per person for 7–10 days, plus flights. Spread the cost with our payment plan: 30% deposit, then 40% sixty days before travel and the final 30% thirty days before arrival. Couples sometimes set up a honeymoon fund so wedding guests can contribute. Ask us for a gift voucher.
Getting married on safari too?
Some couples do it all in one trip, with the ceremony in the Mara and the honeymoon on the beach. Read our guide to a Kenya safari destination wedding, or plan the moment you pop the question with our proposal safari guide.
